What is a Fine Art (Giclée) print and why is it worth investing in

The first day I held a Giclée print in my hand, I fell in love instantly, and I knew I would never print the same way again. The difference is that it’s not just a copy of a photo—it’s so much more! It’s an object made to last, to be admired for generations, to withstand the test of time without sacrificing its beauty.

This is why I exclusively use this type of printing in my collections, because it respects what I intended to convey in each photograph, faithfully preserving my message.

“Giclée” is a French term that refers to a print made with:

  • Pigmented ink (not dyes that fade).
  • 100% cotton or acid-free paper.
  • High-precision machines that apply millions of microdroplets per second.

The result is a level of detail that a standard print simply can’t achieve.

But what truly sets it apart from a standard print?

Primarily, durability. A fine art print can last over 100 years without fading, while a commercial print barely lasts a fraction of that time.

The depth and texture achieved with these art papers is incredible; they add body, tactile quality, presence, and feeling. The image ceases to be flat and comes alive.

In Patagonia, the light changes in seconds, so color fidelity is crucial. Giclée printing is the only method that can preserve that precise transition.

When people ask me why it’s worth investing in Fine Art prints, the answer is simple and clear: when someone buys a Fine Art photograph, they’re buying three fundamental things: the essence of the image, the object as a work of art, and its permanence over time. The wonderful thing about these works is that they aren’t disposable decorations; they are works of art with intention.

Collectors choose this type of print because they know the artwork will remain intact, even under controlled lighting conditions, for decades.

On my website, you can find examples and explore any of these collections:

All my works are delivered printed to museum standards.

A fine art print is a way of honoring the photograph, the moment I captured it, and the person who chooses it for their home.
